Back Pack

I had a customer buy our deluxe back pack and she wanted to see how sturdy they are.  So she opened it up, stuck her leg in it and pulled as hard as she could.  She also pulled at the seams to see if she could pull them apart...........NOTHING!! This back pack is as sturdy as they come AND they are only $24.99!  I had decided that I was going to buy one of these for all of our 72 hr kits. 

My son just graduated from cub scouts into boy scouts and has his 1st camp out this month.  So I needed to get him a back pack.  Of course this is the one I chose.  When I received it I was pleased!  It has several different pockets, lots of storage room will be lasting a long time!

I was at an event a week or so ago and another consultant was there with me and she had the other back pack that we carry.  This was the 1st time I have seen this one or even had any feed back on it.  I was very please with what I saw!  This back pack also has tons of pockets and a storage room.  This one is only $8.99!  They come in red or blue.  Unfortunately they just send you a color you do not pick which you want.  I am even considering buying these for my boys for school.  My girls want girly back backs or I would get these for them as well. 


The difference I saw between the two is the deluxe back pack is build for camping and hiking.  Thats it!  The deluxe back pack can be used 72 hr kits but I have young kids and they are just too big for them.  The other back pack we carry will be great for them!  Both are great back packs.  When choosing which one you want it will end up coming down to which will work better for your family.  I really cant recommend one over the other.

Sting Ease

Several months ago my sister was at my parents house with her 5 year old daughter.  All of a sudden she heard Emma, her daughter, screaming so she went running to find her.  She found her covered in bee stings.  15 to be exact.  Thankfully she was at my parents house.  My Dad has the best sting relief medicine ever.  I dont remember what it is called.  So she used it on Emma and after a while she felt better. 

Jonna, my sister, has been looking for something like that medicine.  She has now found it!  It is from Shelf Reliance and is called Sting Ease.  Not only is it for bee stings but it can also be used on insect bites!  The medicine comes in a bottle with a dropper on the top.  To use it you simply put 1 drop on the bite or sting and gently rub in with the dropper top.  If it still hurts after 15 minutes repeat!  This stuff works wonders!  And the best part.....its only $3.46 through me!  The bottle will last a LONG time!

Instant Milk

I will admit, I have been putting off trying our instant powdered milk.  I have tried non-instant powdered milk from another company, and it wasn't bad, but in order for it to taste good I had to add 1/4 tsp of clear vanilla and 1/2 tsp of sugar for 1 gallon of milk.  It was drinkable but my kids didn't enjoy it.  I DO use non-instant powdered milk for baking!

I have had SO MANY people tell me how good the instant milk is so I decided to try it at a party I had yesterday.  I will say that it needed to be a little colder, but it tasted like fat free milk!  It was GOOD!!  Even my 13 yr old daughter, who did not like the other companies non-instant powdered milk, liked this milk.  She said she could, and would, drink this and wouldn't complain at all!  Every one at the party agreed that this didnt even taste like instant powdered milk.

I have mentioned instant milk and non-instant powdered milk.  There is a difference.  Non-instant powdered milk is better for baking.  You can use it to drink but you need to add 1/2 tsp of sugar and 1/4 tsp of clear vanilla to make it drink able to make it drinkable.  My kids still complained about it even with adding the sugar and vanilla.  Non-instant powdered milk is also much harder to mix up.  It will have clumps in it and it is just a pain to make. 

Instant milk is better for drinking.  It almost dissolves with out any mixing from you.  Just remember that no matter which kind of milk you use MAKE SURE IT IS COLD before you drink it.  If its not cold it is not going to taste good!

Red Cross Black Out Buddy

One of the items I received yesterday was the Red Cross black out buddy.  I am so very excited about these.  I have one in each room of my house. 

They are so cool!  You plug it into an outlet and it charges.  As soon as the power goes out the light turns on.  Or if you unplug it the light turns on.  If you unplug it and dont want the light on there is an auto/off switch.  While it is plugged in if you have it on auto it can be used as a night light.  There is also a power button so if you want to unplug it and walk around your house using it as a flash light you can. 

There is a light on the top and one on the bottom.  The top light is 3 LED blubs.  That is the flash light.  The bottom light is just 1 LED bulb and is the nightlight/light that comes on when the power goes out.

These are so cool!  I just cant say that enough.  I would say that I am going to use these as Christmas presents this year but I wouldnt want any of my family to read this so I wont say that!

These cost about $20 each.  A VERY wise investment.  If in the middle of the night there was an earthquake and it knocked out your power you would have no idea if there was broken glass on the ground.  With these you will be able to see enough to get around safely!  Check these out here

Heavy Duty 5 gallon water container

I decided that this month rather than buying food for my food storage I would buy some emergency preparedness items.  I received my order this evening.  It was like Christmas for me.  It was so exciting.  I received 4- heavy duty 5 gallon water containers.  They are SO cool!  They are meant for long term water storage.  The cap that comes with them has a "locking" feature.  I`m not sure that is the correct word for it.  When you put the cap on it has the ring around it like a milk container has.  When you open it, it will break the seal.




Just having the 4 water containers filled in my garage feels so good knowing that if something happens I have some long term water.  I have 3-55 gallon water barrels and several milk and juice containers filled with water but the milk and juice containers are not meant for long term storage.  I will be buying more of these for sure!  I would also recommend getting these for your water storage.

I have several other items that I received today that I will be review for you.  My next review will be the Red Cross black out buddies....VERY cool!

Chicken TVP

What is TVP?
TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) is an excellent protein source that is easy to store and use. TVP is made from soy flour that has had the soy oil extracted. It is cooked under pressure, then extruded and dried. TVP is high in fiber and low in fat, making it ideal for food storage and everyday use. Because TVP is not made from meat, it does not run the same contamination risk from bacteria such as E. Coli and Salmonella. TVP is soy based, Kosher certified, and perfect for those on a vegetarian diet.

Basically TVP is soy based and is better for you because it is a soy fat, not an animal fat.  If you had TVP back in the day it use to be nasty!  Like with all food storage it has come a long way!  Most people have had TVP with out knowing it.  Many fast food restaurants have TVP mixed in with their meats.


My fave TVP is the chicken.  You can rehydrate it and use it in casseroles, chicken salad, mixed with fresh chicken, or my fave....straight from the can on salad.

The Chicken TVP is good for 10yrs unopened and 1 yr once its opened.  I`ve had a lot of people ask me how to store their food once it is opened.  Very simple.  Just on your shelf.

The TVP Chicken comes in #10 can and the pantry can.  The #10 can retails for $12.29, party price is $11.09.  The pantry can retail price is $6.09 and party price is $5.49

Egg Powder Review

This next item I would like to review for you is our egg powder. I`m sure your thinking....NASTY!!! Am I right? When I had my 1st party my mom was helping me with the cooking. When I told her I wanted her to make scrambled eggs with our egg powder she thought I was crazy! After she made them she tried them and said these are actually really good. They don`t taste any different than fresh eggs.

Our egg powder come in 2 different sizes, a #10 can (1 gallon) and our pantry size can. The pantry can is about 1/3 - 1/4 the size of the #10 can. The #10 can hold 236 eggs and is $20.99. The pantry can holds 60 eggs and is $9.09 To make an egg you use 1 TBS of egg powder and 2TBS of water.

Our egg powder last 5 years unopened and 6 months opened. If you do a lot of baking or eat a lot of scrambled eggs the #10 is great. Its the best value. If you dont do as much baking or don`t eat as many scrambled eggs than the pantry size can is what you want!

If you are wanting to compare apples to apples. Shelf Reliance eggs are about .09 cents each. Comparing that to my local grocery store that has 1 doz eggs for about $1.89. You will pay about .16 cents each.

When you rehydrate the egg powdered they do look different from a fresh egg. They are not thick like a fresh egg. Once they are cooked they look the same. I have used the powdered eggs for scrambled eggs, french toast, fried rice/wheat and in ALL my baking. I have yet to have anyone notice the difference. When you use powdered eggs in your baking add the powder with your dry ingredients and the water with the wet ingredients. There is no need to rehydrate the eggs 1st. The 1st time I used the powdered eggs in something other than baking I was making breakfast and was running out of eggs. I just added a couple powdered eggs to the eggs I had left and my kids didn`t even notice! I have some VERY picky eaters so that says a lot!

Do you need 1 more reason to try our powdered eggs? Here it is. Are you worried about letting your kids...our yourself...eat cookie dough? Afraid they will get sick. Well when you use our powdered eggs there is no worrying. You can now let your kids....or yourself....eat as much as they want. How sweet is that!

FD pineapple

To help you become more aware of the different products that we carry I decided I would start featuring different products and telling you what my family and I think of them.

I have to start off with my most fave product we carry....Freeze Dried (FD) pineapple. From day one this has been my families fave product! My 13 yr old daughter actually asked for a can for Christmas. :) The FD pineapple is great straight out of the can, its also good on cereal or in baked goods. I havent found a way that we dont like it. Retail price is $37.39, party pricing is $33.69. You can order directly from Shelf Reliance but as you can see you will save $3.70 by ordering through me!
